I have a Stickley mantle clock with a battery operated Quartex movement. The movement has failed, and I need ti remove it to get the dimensions I need to purchase a new movement. But I can't get the second hand off. The central metal piece holding the second hand in place just will not come off.

Can anyone help.

With quartz movements, the second hand usually pulls directly off the center hand shaft. Every quartz movement Klockit sells has a central pin shaft within the center hand shaft. Second hands have a sleeve (on the backside of the hub) which slides over this pin shaft. An open nut is used to hold the minute hand in place, however this would usually be behind the second hand.

At this point, if the movement is defective, you really can not hurt much of anything by trying to pull the second hand off. Yes - you could possibly damage the second hand pulling it off (as it is fragile). Note that second hands (while optional) are rather inexpensive to replace (less than $1). The other factor is that I can not guarentee that your existing second hand will work with a replacement movement (as the pin shaft it mounts to has differing diameters dependning on the movement). Given this, you will most likely have to purchase a new second hand if you should want one on the clock.
