Hello fellow clock collectors.
I have a Seth Thomas mantle clock with a hermil 340.020 movement that gains 2 minutes a day. I replaced the escapement to a floating wire type unit that is adjusted to its slowest setting. Where do i go from here?
I rebushed the movement, removed and cleaned up the springs(all 3)
All looks good. I tried 3 different escape systems with no help.
I am at a loss as to what to do.ANY IDEAS ???
John

the action or swing must be a full 360 degrees to get a decent timekeeping ate.

That means the balance must swing all the way around to the back one way and the same the other way. if it's not doing this it must be losing power thro the train (wheels etc).

Depending on how old and used and worn the movement is will depend what needs replacing. usually old hermle need new mainsprings or barrels complete. cleaning the weak old mainsprings won't make go with enough ummff
