WD-40 is the worse thing to use on a clock, since it will eventually gum up the clock, and will cost you twice as much for the clockman to clean up.
You need to dis-assemble the clock, and clean it in ammonia and dishwashing liquid, or a commercial cleaner, and then dry the parts in an oven or with a blow dryer. Then of course re-assemble, and oil.
