Post subject: Howard Miller Braden Grandfather Clock Will Not Chime
We just set up a new Howard Miller Braden Grandfather clock, right out of the box and the chimes will not work. We have the chime set for "on" and the night chime set for "on". Any ideas on why this is happening?
Thank you,
Justine

some are tied up on the chains.
maybe the hammers are still tied up?
have you got the heavier weight on the chime side not the strike?
is the clock approaching the hour or have you took it past the 12 which may have jammed the mechanism?
are the chains jammed in the wheels and not on the mainwheel sprockets as they should be?

Yes - check to make certain you have removed all shipping materials (including any shipping guards over the suspension spring, cable/chain drums, and chime rods/hammers). Another possibility - - If the movement thinks it is night-time, then it may be in silence mode. See if the clock chimes after a 12 hour period (when it would think that it was not night-time). You can also check your weights as well (as suggested previously) - and make certain they are in the correct locations. You can also check the gap between the hammers and corresponding chime rods. Typical gap would be about 1/8" (give or take) between the head of the hammer and the corresponding rod. Also make certain the hammers are centered over the corresponding chime rods.
