Post subject: Howard Miller Question
Greetings,
I have a Howard Miller Mantle clock with a 340-020 movement. The clock keeps gaining time, like 40 minutes a day. I have the speed adjustment backed all the way out to the end of the shaft. This is where it gets if you continue to make adjustments in the - direction. I can't see any damage. What should I look for and how can I fix this?
Thanks in advance for your help!

have you looked at where the gear shafts go through the back and front plates. Could be some worn holes that is causing the problem. I would watch the pendulum motion in action, to see if the escapement is skipping.

I will look at the shafts and their penetrations. However, I do not have a pendulum on this clock. The time is determined by a vertical pin with a planar spring that the time adjuster works on. Sorry for this description, but I don't know what to call the piece.

Ah, that is a balance wheel type escapement, totally different than a pendulum. Have never dealt with one, so I can not help.
You can also buy a new replacement movement, if it is badly worn.
