This stunning longcase Grandfather clock by the best Clock maker in Britain in the 18th century is nothing short of brilliant. With a broken swan neck Pediment with voluted brass terminals, 8 day movement, pendulum driven with a stunning rococo filigree polished dial it is a monumental and classical piece of 18th century horology at it's very best and in PERFECT condition. His registered business address during the 18th centuery was No 63 Broad Street in Bristol taken from a list of British metal workers in the Brsitol DIrectory of 1775.
Joseph Smith is recorded in Moore A.J. THE CLOCKMAKERS OF BRISTOL 1650-1900 as working from several addresses in Bristol 1725-1775. He is generally considered a fine and diverse maker with known examples ranging from eight day longcase clocks with tidal dials to watches with champleve dial
