Post subject: Junghans clock
I need to know where I can buy or how I can repair a barrel for a Junghans clock. The spring hook pin on the inside of the barrel broke off.

I was thinking about making a new hook and using Tix solder and Tix flux to hold it on. Does this sound like a good idea?

It is times like these that I wish I were more experienced with mechnical movements. To be honest, my thought is that repairs should only be attempted by those with experience in such matters. I would suggest contacting a qualified repair person. Even if you are not planning to take the clock in, they may be able to offer some advice (or confirm your suggestion for repair). Better to be safe than sorry (in my humble opinion).

Not sure the solder would hold long since the spring is under alot of tension when wound, and as it releases. Generally solder used in clock repair is a no no!

I took the barrel to my father-in-law who owns a machine shop and he suggested using silver solder since it has a higher tensile strength. We made a new hook and soldered it on. It feels like its on there well, so hopefully it will hold when I wind the spring.
