Post subject: Key-hole finishing rings
Does anyone know where I can buy the inserts that provide a nice surround to a drilled key-winding face-plate hole? A lousy description I think. Okay...
Here's the thing. I need to drill key-winding holes in a clock face-plate. I have a drill-press and I think the result should be fine enough but I have never had to drill a nice clock face before, I think I can make a good job and clean up around the drilled hole with a fine grind stone, I am not worried about this, but I think I can make a very much nicer job as follows:
I have a couple of clocks which have small brass rings that surround the drilled hole. They are little brass rings with teeny tabs. The rings press into the drilled hole and extend perhaps 1/16 or 1/8" around the exterior of the hole on the outside of the face. The tabs are bent on the inside to hold it in place. It provides a buffer for the key so the plate does not get scratched if the key bonks into the face-plate, they also provide a nice looking finish to the drilled hole.
