I'm new to this and do not know what the clock parts are called, but here goes.

I had to "fool around" with a Kieninger grandfather clock movement to get it working again. It is cable driven, three weights, second hand, moon dial, selective chimes; chimes on 1/4 hour (or is it called 4/4), every 15 minutes.

There are two levers(stops) that halt the chime when it's done.
The front one looks like it is designed to catch and stop the chiming very fifteen minutes. The rear one looks like it is designed to help stop the chime only once in a hour. This is due to a cam shown in the second picture.

My question is this, should the second lever come into play at the end of the on-hour chiming when the minute hand is straight up or at some other 1/4 hour?

It seems to work if I set it at the hour, or at the first quarter hour.

it's part of the self-correcting mechanism. it operates at the 3rd quarter. it stops the clock chiming until the bigger lifting part of the cam on the clock centre shaft lifts the levers out of the chime cam wheel to set the chime going. this happens at the hour .

Still a bit puzzled by the purpose of the lever.
My clock occasionally skipped ahead or lagged behind, minute hand vs chime. Such that it would chime the entire melody at half past for example.

Is this lever supposed to get the chime re-synchronized with the minute hand in those situations?

Yes, I did without knowing it.

"...stop the chime operating until the hour.."
Then I have a part missing, the "stop arm" has a hole in it which must have had a lever connected to the front face as an option.

I'm getting ready to pull it completely apart to get the dirt out of all bushings, the oil is really black.

p.s.
Be careful what kind of cleaning fluid you guys use, I nearly destoyed the plastic cable retainers with a petrochemical cleaner. Mad
