Post subject: Kindly Help with our Antique Mantle Clock Signature
Hello,
We have a bronze and marble antique mantle clock. The clock itself reads Roberde Carentan, and there is an engraving in the back of the clock that reads: DEPRT 79. Does anyone have any ideas on this clockmaker and the abbreviation on the back bottom bronze portion of the clock? Kindly advise.

I had come across a similar (if not exact) clock on e-bay with the same maker's name (hopefully it is not your clock). Unfortunately, information out there is sparse. The auction poster thought it was a French clock dating back to 1879. Side note: Carentan also happens to be the name of a small, rural French town (could this indicate where the clock was originally made?). From what I have seen in clock guides, there were a lot of statue/figural clocks of this nature made in France in the late 19th century with various signatures (identifying markings). In some cases, my clock guides simply identifies them as "French/French-Style" clocks, and gives no indication of manufacturer.
