Post subject: L50 or L50T
My uncle gave ma a Grandfather clock he buiild and it has either a L50 or L50T clock movement. I am not sure which one. It seems to be workining very well but does not chime the hours. Seems to me when I was in my uncles house in the past that it did chime the hours. Looking for some help. How do I tell which movement is installed and how to get an instruction manual.

The movement itself may contain information on the front or rear plates. You might be able to find such information as the manufacturer, movement model number, and pendulum designation etched onto the actual front/back plate of the movement. Other forum patrons may also be able to identify the exact movement by the model numbers you provided (so keep checking back).
As far as your chime problem: Try to find out the last time the movement was serviced. Mechanical movements need to be oiled about every 1 to 3 years, and cleaned every 3 to 5 years. Most problems with mechanical movements stem from lack of this service ritual. You can oil/clean the movement yourself (with some help from various books on the subject), but a qualified repair person could do this for you as well (and will also be able to tell you if there are any worn parts in need of replacement).
