Post subject: looking all over for pendulum quartz movement with tick tock
I have a wall clock that I have been searching everywhere for a particular pendulum movement. This was a clock my mom got in 1970, and it had a Syroco pendulum mechanical movement with a D cell.
The pendulum is about 8 inches in length and has a swing of about 3-4 inches. There are minute and hour hands but no seconds. I don't need a movement with chimes.
I want to get a movement that has the good old "tick tock" sound. I've done endless searching on the Internet, and all I can seem to find are silent quartz pendulum movements. While a quartz movement is great---because of the accuracy---I really want the tick tock also.
I remember some years ago a clock supply catalog that had tick-tock pendulum movements AND the mechanisim was quartz. So I know they were made once upon a time. Can anyone advise where I can find one of these? If I can't get one in a quartz movement, a mechanical would be ok as long as it has the sound! Thanks in advance for any advice!

Standard quartz movements are actually not that quiet, and do produce the "tick-tock" sound. Granted, it may not be as audible as a mechanical version movement...
The quartz movements which are silent are called "continuous sweep" movements. Rather than a sweep that steps around the dial (which creates the "tick-tock sound), the continuous sweep movement rotates non-stop (which results in a much quieter motor). A continuous sweep movement is NOT what you want.
Look into any standard (non-chiming) quartz pendulum movement. It should produce the "tick-tock" you desire to hear. Movement option links are listed below...
