Post subject: mantal odo clock does not run
i have an odo mantal clock that does not run. it has two main springs, one for the chine every half hour and hour chime and another spring for the clock itself. when i whind up the clock i hear the spring jump then there is no tension on the spring. i guess the spring is broken. is there anywere i can get another spring for this clock. inside the clock their is set of numbers about 10 or 12 numbers long is this a model no.?

It definitely sounds as if the spring is broken. Merritts Antiques in Douglassville PA and Timesavers in Scottsdale AZ (both have websites) carry some replacement mainsprings. However, there are several factors to be considered before a replacement could be ordered.. Are the springs open or in barrels? What is the length and width of the springs and what is the tensile strength required? As far as I know Odo may no longer be in business.
In any case I don't recommend mainspring replacement as a first time project for anyone. It usually involves complete dismantling of the movement. Also springs under tension pack an enormous wallop if they should accidentally release before they are properly installed.
I would strongly advise that you take the clock to a qualified clock tech.

i think i will take your advise and take the clock to a clock teck. i did not realize the main spring was under so much tension.
