Post subject: Mantel chiming clock (foreign)
I am trying to assembly this clock. I have the chime part right but I don't know how to time the strike. At 5 to the hour the chime warning operates and then a strike warning (half turn) This does not lift the hammers which is good but then I get another warning and the hammers are lifted half up so the chime is messed up. Also it always only strikes one in that case. If I leave the hands still and just trip the chime over again it chimes and strikes perfectly. I could attach photos if that would help. (If I can figure out how to do it)

you should have the chime working so that the highest point releases a lever which makes the strike side warning operate.
you seem to have got this far so now the chime finishes and the lever releases the strike warning wheel altogher and now the strike should operate counting the hours and lifting the hammer etc.
some mechs operate the two warnings together but a lever keeps the strike from running until the chime finihes.
you need to register with a picture hosting company like flickr or ?? to upload pics and the copy the url link and paste it on the post.

Post subject: Strike train problems
[Thanks clockfxr
I never saw this clock working so I think some bending and bodgying may have been done. I found the gathering pallet was being pushed too early and starting the warning which was half a turn. Then, near the end of the chime train (on the hour) the strike was released. In desperation I bent the strike flirt slightly so it does not push the gathering pallet enough to drop the rack. The rack now only drops near the end of the chime train, and sets the warning which is good and it all seems to work OK. Hard to explain and I am no expert. (as you can see). I got a book from the library which told me those names and also described how it was supposed to work. However, the example in the book was not exactly the same as my clock. Thanks again.
