Post subject: mantel clock ocassionally skips a tick...
Hello,
Thank you for this forum. I recently had my ansonia mantel clock cleaned and oiled. It had been fixed, and was in the repair shop for about three weeks before I was able to pick it up. The folks at the repair shop told me it was running without a problem. After getting it home, I discovered the clock sometimes skips a tick, and then stops running altogether (sometimes it runs for a few hours, sometimes for just under 30 minutes). The clock does run much better than it used to (in fact, before taking it to the repair shop, it didn't run at all). Is there some way I can easily take care of this problem? Does it have to do with the speed dial on the pendulum? Any help would be truly appreciated... thank you!

If the clock is set up properly, and repairs included bushing work, etc, the clock pendulum should swing wide with each tick, and should have a loud tick. The ticks should be steady beats. If it does not do all of these, there, there could be several things causing it. It could need an adjustment of the verge, bringing it closer to the escape wheel, it could need new bushings at the escape wheel arbour or the verge arbour, or it could have a short tooth or two on the escape wheel. Repairing any of these should be done by a pro.
