Post subject: Mantel clock Strke and Chimes Please help!
Hello Everyone
I have recently purchased a Mechanical Mantel clock with an AMS German movement. The clock chimes on the half hour and then Strikes on the hour, unfortunately the hour strike is out by five hours! I have read that you should set the hour hand to that of the strike and then adjust by winding forward with the minute hand to the correct time allowing the clock to chime on the half hour and then strike each hour until you reach the correct time. Unfortunately my timepiece appears not to have a friction hour hand and I certainly don't wish to force the mechanism, does anyone have any suggestions as to how I can correct the strike please?
Any advice most welcome.

You must put a great deal of pressure on the hour hand to move it. Perhaps you should try a drop of penetrating oil. It should move.

if you don't want to force the hand you must wait until it strikes the hour and adjust accordingly

Perhaps you can let the clock run down, (make sure all mainsprings have no juice left), then adjust the clock accoringly by moving the minute hand. The change in hours won't register, since the clock is totally unwound. I've used this technique before.
