Moon Dial Clock

Hello,
I'm wanting to make a moon dial clock but am a jeweller with no experience in clock making...so am looking for any advice and have a few basic, probably slightly stupid questions if anyone can help!

Firstly, does the rotation of the moon dial rely upon pendulum movement? I've only seen moon dials on grandfather clocks or with pendulums and am struggling to find any info on the actual moon dial mechanism and how it works...which means I can't really develop my designs any further so if anyone has any info or links to good websites that would be greatly appreciated...I'm hitting a brick wall with this project at the moment!

This book has plans for converting a quartz movement to a Moon Dial.

Moon dial does not rely on the pendulum, just the proper gearing to make the moon dial turn over the lunar month.
