Are the hands lengthened/shortened by springs and a cam located behind the dial? I'm working on something similar but I found that generally a clock motor doesn't have enough torque to turn against a spring. Also I found that a press on hand won't stay fixed to the post properly.
Nice design though and I hope you get it to work.

More than likely you will need an electric motor, as the battery movements do not have enough torque to drive a cam.
