I'm trying to replace a bad movement in a wall clock. The existing pendulum is 18-in long and the effective length from the shaft center line is 21 in. the only pendulum movements seem to have only 16-in pendulums. This is really too short to look decent. Can I use my existing pendulum with a movement designed for a shorter one? (Assuming I can get it to hook in place) The length of the pendulum affects the period of the swing. Will the longer pendulum get "tweakd" by the movement at the proper interval?

Or - does someone make a movement with a longer pendulum?

Thanks

Larry

Check out #12260 or #12263 (25-1/8" pendulum length). Also check #12254 or #12257 (24-7/16"). Note that these are break away pendulum sticks, and they can be adjusted to the size that suits your case assembly. Also - - If the bob diamter is too large, you may purchase another bob sepaerately (#1009802 which is 2-3/4" diameter).

Klockit offers longer pendulum sticks which can be purchased separately (#1009786 - for single hook pendulums only). Be careful though, as the actual pendulum length does not always reflect the total mounted pendulum length once the pnedulum is mounted onto the movement. You can usually factor for an inch or three more once the pendulum is mounted to the movement (yielding an 18"-20" total pendulum length when all is said and done). Remember, the pendulum leader (hanger) is lower than the center shaft of the movement (which is what adds a couple of inches).

Note that the pendulum for a battery operated movement has NO bearing on timekeeping (it is strictly for show). A longer pendulum will have a decreased swing width, but that's about it. Also note that you may be able to use your existing pendulum (providing it is not for a mechanical style movement - as, if so, it would probably be too heavy for the battery operated movement to swing). Check to see if your movement is a single hook pendulum or a double hook. Then order a movement with the corresponding style pendulum hook (If you look at the pictures on Klockit's website, the movement pendulum leader will either be skinny in width or wide. The wider leaders are for double-hook, the skinny ones are for single hook).
