I recently purchased a Pottery Barn alarm clock from the Goodwill store hoping I could repair it. The minute hand has detached from the hand shaft and the only way to reattach it is to remove the entire casing from the clock shell. I'm almost to the point of having the casing removed except for a slotted plug on the top of the clock. I can't seem to get it to unscrew using a common screw driver on one side of the plug and I'm afraid I'll scratch the clock. From the image attached, can someone tell me if there's a special tool used for this? Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Hello,

It said that I was not authorized to view the photo on Flickr. Is there a setting where you could change this?

So is it the center brass bushing that you are trying to remove? The one with slots on either side of center? If so, you could try to fabricate something resembling a regular head screwdriver with dual heads. The center portion would need to be removed (between the two heads) in order to allow clearance for the bushing in between.

I suppose you could even try using two regular screwdrivers. I would place a soft (durable) cloth over the piece and then push the drivers into each slot (with the cloth underneath). This could help to prevent damage or scratching as you try to remove the bushing. I hope that these suggestions prove useful...
