Post subject: New Haven Mantle
I have an old New Haven mantle clock that I bought at a junk store. I restored the case and cleaned and oiled the movement - it runs well however it is running fast - picking up a few hours or more each day. I turned the speed regulator all the way to the left and no effect. The pendulum is a lightweight plastic piece and shaped like a fishing sinker. Is this the correct pendulum ? Is it supposed to be filed with some weight ? Are parts available for this such as the flat pendulum spring ?

New Haven made some pretty nice mantle clocks but it sounds like someone has taken the factory pendulum and replaced it with something that isn't supposed to be there. If it is gaining that much time in a 25 hour period, it needs a heavier pendulum for sure. I would check with a clock parts supplier for the proper weight pendulum for that model of New Haven clock. They should be able to match you up with one that will get closer to the real time on this particular planet!! Ask about a replacement suspension spring while you are talking to them about pendulum also. Most suppliers carry a full line of suspension springs.
