Is the movement very dirty? Cleaning properly, should be done with the movement disassembled and cleaned in a special solution in an ultrasonic machine. If it works well and looks clean around pivots, leave it alone. It is better to have this done by a professional.

For the wood, it would be a good idea to find out what the finish coating is. This way, you would know what you could use to clean it. Murphy's oil soap is traditionally what I use (and works well with most finishes) - but it is always a good idea to test any cleaning or polishing agents in an inconspicuous area of the assembly.
