Post subject: Newbie needs suggestions
I'm totally new in the world of hobby clock repair, but I've been consumed with reading about this fascinating topic. Can anyone offer suggestions of what type of non-working clocks I should be looking for on Ebay? I am concerned of buying something with plastic movements instead of brass. The most basic the better. Thanks in advance!

Most battery operated quartz movements will not be made out of brass. Therefore, any clock case which indicates "quartz" or specifies a required number of batteries to run the movement will not be made out of brass. Quartz movements are the most basic movement you can find (requiring little to no adjustment for time keeping).
Movements made out of brass tend to be mechanical movements, which would either require weights (raised once a week) or weekly winding to keep the movement operational (depending on the type of mechanical movement).
