when it is 1:00, the clock chimes 12 times, then at 2:00, it chimes 1 time, etc., etc., etc. how hard is it to get it back to the correct number of chimes per the hour? i have tried moving the clock forward manually, but nothing helps. only the hour chimes are off; the chimes work correctly at quarter, half and 3/4 hour.

Need to know what sort of clock it is to give a better prognosis. Is it a longcase, Westminster chiming mantle clock? If it is a mass produced British or German Napoleon hat type clock, then gently try moving the hour hand on its pipe, holding the hand nearest you can to its centre to avoid bending or breaking the hand.

If this is a mechanical movement, remove the hour hand and re-mount it at the time the movement thinks it is (1 hour ahead). From that point, set the clock to the current time moving tthe minute hand clock-wise. Make certain to stop and allow the movement to chime at each quarter hour/hour before moving the minute hand again (or shut off the chimes if applicable).
