Post subject: odd question about building a clock
Hi,
I dont know much at all about building clocks, but i am currently building a home with a clock tower on it ( a little something with a wethervane on it) we decided a clock would be neat,
what we want to do though is have a simple electric operated clock up there but we want chimes. Is there a system we can buy where its an electric clock with real chimes? like large chimes you can year outside?
Any kits would be handy... i don't even know where to start with something like this..
any help would be great
thanks in advance

Matty, for safety (12volt systems), off the shelf simplicity, and cost you might search the sites containing car speaker systems and components. I imagine you could also add a simple wireless remote switch to control the hourly chimes. I would start by investing time and money on a permanent speaker system and work backwards to a cheap chimes generator/interface to the clock as a replaceable unit which you could later upgrade to a more sophisticated (build your own chime audio files and 'upload' to the tower) system. Sounds like nice project with lots of options.
