Post subject: opinions sought on this "Granddaughter"
I am seeking information on this "Granddaughter" it is approx 48" high
by 8" wide it has an 8 day movement the dial is I think an early plastic pearl imitation with brass numbers, I wonder if the dial and movement are original it is minus a minute hand and glass and bezel and it works!! The case is veneer on plywood so mass projuced though it is out of proportion on the case almost an apprentice piece?
I would say that it's original. A photo of the movement would help in confirming it. Looks very much like the type of clock made in the UK during the 1920's and 30's. The deco style case, dial and remaining hand on this clock would date it to that era.
Basically these were meant to give the illusion of a larger grandfather clock in a smaller size case and where limited space was available. The case usually contained a mantel clock movement. This petite style of clock was more popular in the UK than anywhere else. The dial could be either early plastic or celluloid.

Post subject: Picture of the movement
It is very basic shiney brass with no makers name or mark but a possible service number scratched on which reads 5/52/JS
Thanks for the opinion

The movement looks to be a replacement. I have owned several of these clocks, and they all had a typical English mantel clock movement. You can see the original movement screw holes in the picture. It had a pendulum movement, probably. You may be able to find an inexpensive English mantel clock, remove the movement, and use it in your clock. I have one very similar to yours with the original movement and dial. Your dial is questionable. All I have seen have a typical English mantel clock dial also.
