Sorry I originally posted this on mechanical movements. I need help. My husband built several clocks with quartz movements with pendulums. I could always start and stop the pendulums by just swinging the pendulum or stopping the pendulums movement. I have just noticed that when I try to start the pendulum swinging it doesnt keep going. Can someone please help. The movements keep the time okay as long as I replace the batteries.

Quartz (battery-operated) movement pendulums are purely for show, and do not effect the timekeeping accuracy of the clock motor. Generally, when a quartz pendulum does not continue to swing, you will want to check a couple of specifics:

1.) Is the movement mounted vertically plumb within the clock case? If the movement is tilted (to a certain degree), then pendulum operation may subsequently be compromised.

2.) Is the battery low on power? The pendulum is powered by the battery. Keep in mind that the battery may still have enough power to keep the movement running, but may not have enough power to deliver the electromagnetic charge to keep the pendulum swinging. Try changing the batteries.

You can also contact Klockit (quartz movement) technical support. While my own experience with quartz movements is somewhat general, they may have other options for you to try.
