hi i just purchased this mantle clock...i am pretty sure it is a hermle, as i see FHS stamped on the movement..however i see no numbers to indentify the age of the clock...there is something written on the back door that i can't make out except the numbers...i was told this clock has a spring movement and to be careful about over winding..the clock keeps good time and chimes beautifully...any information on this clock would be appreciated...also when do you know that it needs winding?? as you can see i am a newbie ..but nevertheless very fascinated by vintage clocks...i tried to post an image, but no success...i can't make out whats written on the back of the door....it looks like it may be written in german...numbers are 19-4-60 and a signature under that...wish i could figure out how to upload an image...[/img]

You could try to supply the movement manufacturing number. From there, we may be able to single out what movement it is, and answer further questions. Klockit carries two spring wound movements which are considered 8 day movements (that is, they would need to be wound every eight days - but typical winding would be every seven just to make things consistent with a weekly winding ritual). The Hermle manufacturing numbers for these movements are 340-020 & 1050-020. If you find either of these numbers on the back of the movement, then we can concur that you should wind the movement every 7 to 8 days.

You can check into posting photos on any type of site which allows you to post photos for free (for example: http://www.flickr.com/). Once posted, you can provide the link to the photo in this forum (just copy and paste the link in a response to this post). Hope this helps out...
