I am in the clock retail business, and as most of you know, keywound movement clocks are much more expensive that quartz (battery) movement clocks of the same type. I have a couple of customers who have e-mailed me asking why they are so much more expensive, and I do know that the parts used in the movement have something to do with it. However, I don't know enough real detail about quartz movements (or keywound, for that matter) to give the quality, in-depth answer they deserve. I believe there are some rather knowledgeable individuals on this board who can provide me a stronger answer. I would appreciate any information you can provide.

Thanks,

mechanical clocks have more moving parts, most parts are made of metal. Quartz movements are mostly plastic, and have fewer moving parts.
