Post subject: Question about a C. Jupitz grandfather clock
I have a old 1800's C. Jupitz grandfather clock. Is there someone that could I.D. this clock? I wanted to find some history about this original clock- see photos. My email is sbright8@juno.com. Be happy to send pics. My Dad brought it back in a C-130 back in the 60's I'm interested in selling it.[/img]

Near as I could gather, C. Jupitz seems to be a retailer (not necessarily the clock manufacturer). If this is actually the case, then the clock was likely built by someone else, but with the retailer name (Jupitz) noted somewhere on the case (probably the clock face). It was not uncommon to commission another manufacturer to build an assembly that a retailer intended to sell as their own. Unfortunately, there is not a lot of info out there on Jupitz, but someone with a bit more experience might be able to confirm or deny my best guess.
I was only able to find one Grandfather Jupitz clock that sold a while back through one of many auction sites. I believe that the final sale value was around $700 (but do not know if it contained the original elements such as the movement, dial, pendulum, etc.). If this was the case, then the value was likely decreased due to the original components being replaced by newer ones. Granted, I would not advocate basing value from a past auction (as there was no indication of when the auction began/ended as well).
I would keep checking back here for more possible info. You may also try posting on NAWCC.
