Most movements will give a partial chime on the quarter hours, and then give the complete chime and hour strike at the top of the hour. The partial chime (every 15 minutes) is progressive (in that the movement will play more of the tune every 15 minutes until the entire chime melody is heard at the top of every hour). While my experience is general, I am not familiar with any movement that chimes every 45 minutes and strikes every few hours. Keep checking back, however, as we have several experienced patrons who may be able to offer more concrete info.
