I have a clock that I inherited from my grandmother. It was custom built by a gentleman that my grandmother was good friends with in the early 80's. When my grandmother passed away in 2000, she gave me the clock via her will. I was excited to get it, as I've loved it since the day she brought it home.

I don't think that it was ever maintained properly. The movement eventually slowed to the point that the Westminster chime barely worked (very slow), and finally gave out when one of the springs seemed to break. I kept in our basement until I stumbled upon Old Clocks in Dupree's Antiques in Marietta Square. Bill, the owner, offered to either fix the spring or replace the movement. Unfortunately the movement was no longer manufactured and would require a replacement of the face. Bill didn't pressure me one way or the other. Based on the info he gave me, I chose to repair the spring.

Three week later, I recieved my clock back in great working condidtion. The movement is solid. When winding the clock now, it is much smoother than I remember, and the chime works like new. I will not hesitate to bring the clock back for maintenance in the future.
