reshape hands

I'm changing a noisy beautiful clock into a quiet one by putting a new movement into it, and I picked hands which come pretty close to the final look I'd like, however...

Is there any reason why I should not slice tiny bits off the sides of the hands to reshape them into bamboo leaves? I saw "can be clipped 1/4 inch" and now I'm wondering, so what? I don't need to change the length of the hands, but the weight/mass could change considerably before I'm done.
