Post subject: Ridgeway Grandfather Clock 5-tube chimes---Age?
Hi,
I am curious if anyone can help me determine the age of a sweet grandfather clock I just picked up at a garage sale. It is a Ridgeway clock with the code J-88-164 written in black underneath the bottom of its wooden case. On the back of its face mechanism it is stamped 87640 Urgos uw 3/18 or something like that. It has 3 brass non-decorated weights on brass chains, a simple round non-decorated pendulum and 5 silver (steel???) tubes that the hammers strike to make the chime sounds. My guess is that it is 20-30 years old. Any information on this clock would be appreciated. I have it near my old Kobold clock and they look pretty neat near each other. Now I have two grandfather clocks !! I feel like a collector and it is a becoming a fun and interesting hobby. I hope to keep it in control. I can send pictures to anyone if that will help them in dating this clock. I have searched the internet and can not find any information on 5-tube Ridgeway clocks that have brass chains and weights to drive them.
Thanks, Keith

As per e mail correspondence with the poster the Ridgeway clock has an Urgos 8 day chain drive, Westminster tubular chime movement, approximately 30 years old.
