Post subject: Ridgeway Grandfather clock
Could anybody tell me why my clock that chimes on the half hour and on the hour only chimes on the hour and when it does it chimes for the half hour and the hour all at the same time. there is nothing chimeing on the half hour at all its all on the hour.

Probably needs a service.
Usually worn if it's an old one.

It's only 18 years old and it was serviced about 7 yeary ago. Is that all you can tell me to do, I was hopeing for something I could do myself.

is there a name on the mechanism?
your description of the fault doesn't give us many clues.
Take the hands and dial off and see if the levers are dropping properly on the centre shaft.

Ridgeway, like many clock companies today, was a furniture company and did not build the movement in your clock. Usually there will be information stamped into the brass on the back plate that will help to identify the model and maker of the movement.
Your chiming/striking problem may simply be a matter of lubrication, but more information about the movement is necessary.
