The only thing that controls the timekeeping of the clock is the pendulum. For the clock to suddenly to go fast, is the minute hand slipping?

Yes the BHI would help but ceratin books like English Domestic Clocks by Cezinsky and Webster may be of help to. If you are constructing out of wood, use Lignum vitae for bushes. see the article below ...
