Post subject: Seth Thomas Grandfather Chime Silencer
I have a Seth Thomas A403-015 movement in my grandfather clock and it will not chime. The clock runs fine. Does this movement have a chime silencer? I can't see one. Any other suggestions on getting it to chime would be appreciated.

Thanks for the reply. Would you or someone have a diagram of this movement to tell me if it has a chime silencer? I don't see one but I could be missing a lever. I realize I may need to have the movement cleaned and oiled. Thanks fpor any help.

there appears to be a silent lever but i don't have diagram.
try taking the minute hand to the nearest quarter and at the same time pulling a bit on the right weight.
that way you will know if the clock mechanism starts to move it is not held by the silent lever. this will indicate also that it needs a service.
you should be able to see the lever on the left or right of the dial (face).
