Post subject: Setting up a gong...
Hi, all -
I'm setting up a movement right now, and while mounted and ticking away happily, I'm having trouble setting the gong. The strike hammer swings, but moves very gently, and if it contacts the gong at all, does so very softly so that there's barely any sound.
Suggestions?
Thanks,
Scott

Ok, relocated the gong so it strikes below the bonnet - gravity is doin' its job. New problem - the pendulum runs down and eventually stops. If I remove the pendulum, it runs forever (albeit way fast).
Ideas? I leveled and plumbed the case already...

Got it - reshaped the crutch wire, and it;s keeping time nicely now...

If you could re-mount your gong where the hammer contacts the gong in the center of the gong on the straight portion of the gong, you would get a much better sound.
