small nut doesn't work

I have a number of Quartex movements that seem to require a small nut to hold the minute hand in place. I also have a large number of small nuts that seem just slightly too large to screw into place. The cap nut does fit on these shafts, but prevents me from using second hands on these clocks. Any ideas?

You may wish to look into replacements for the open nuts you have (perhaps they are incorrect). Not all Quartz movements require the same type of cap nut, and it could be possible that there was a mix up.
