I just picked up this clock a few days a go and it keeps time very well.
The felow told me the chimes don't work.
I still traded him for it, knowing this and I was fine with it.
Can someone tell me what I need to look for, to get it working?
That is before I take it in for repair.
Maybe it is something simple.
When I tried to wind the the chime it made grinding noise.
Was it wound to tight or the soring is broken?
Any help would be appreciated.

does it make a clicking noice when winding the chime side? when winding does it feel as though there is tension on the spring?

You can always take the movement out of the case and while winding it, notice what is happening.

First it goes smoothly when winding and then it feels like the spring goes around freely and the makes the loud gear spinning/grinding noise.

Also, when it comes to the hour or half hour and it's time to chime, it just makes a click sound.

sounds like the mainspring is broken - not simple to repair.
