Post subject: Synchronizing Chimes with Time-#12266 PLEASE HELP!!
I just purchased and installed a chiming pendulum movement #12266. I followed the setup instructions but the chimes sounded 10 minutes before they should at all 4 points-at :05:, :20, :35 & :50 minutes. I called customer svc. She told me to hold the time setting knob after the hour strike and move the minute hand up to 12:00 position. The chimes were then right, but the time was off, so I turned the time adj knob to reset the time and now the time shows correctly but the chimes are 5 minutes early. They sound at 55 min, 10 min, 25 min, 40 min.
Now what? Can you please send me the resetting procedure in writing? And what are the SET and RESET buttons for? Why wasn't the resetting instructions included with the shipment?
Please help. Thanks.

The movement features press-on hands. Try removing the minute hand (once the movement chimes), and re-mounting it at the correct (corresponding) chime position. The top of the hour is probably the best time to do this (just after the movement chimes). In this manner, you should be able to correct the time/chime discrepancy.
In regard to the reset button... this was an original feature of the movement - however the vendor determined that it initially caused too many complications with re-synchronizing the movement. They determined that synchronization could be better achieved through alternate means.
Why the vendor has not removed the button - I do not know (it may have something to do with re-tooling costs). At any rate, the vendor suggests not to use the reset button.

Thanks for your reply. I was actually going do this way - removing and reinstalling the hands, but I thought I needed a more techy answer. The setup instructions certainly leave a lot to be desired. They should be re-written to include info such as this. They don't even have a section on "How To Reset The Clock when batteries are changed."
Thanks for your time.

Yes - I will request that someone look into instruction revisions/additions as per your suggestions.
In regard to a battery change, I believe that the melody function should revert back to the 5:00 am factory pre-set time every time a new battery is inserted. I will also admit, however, that I have not personally confirmed this. With current knowledge of the hand adjustment procedure, you can always test to confirm this by removing the batteries and then re-inserting them after a few minutes.
