I have an old Seth Thomas ship's clock (abt 7 to 8 inches dia) and the minute hand mounts to a square shaft and is held on by a tapered pin. I need the pin and some spring washers with square holes that go beneath the pin to put pressure on the minute hand to hold it in place - where can I get these parts ???

Found the tapered pins and washers at Timesavers - had to buy a huge quantity of both and in all different sizes (they don't sell a small lot - only need one of each !) - Oh well, at least I found them. Now I hope they will fit !

I got these pins and had to test many before I found one that kind of fit. Also found a washer but you have to be careful not to have too tight an assembly or the hands will bind. Also, the time is set by moving the hands and if too loose, the pin will come out. Wish it was a threaded end !!!!

suppliers are there for the trade mainly and so cater for people using a lot over a period.
I use a lot because i repair quite a few and it makes sense then to buy in bulk.

The hand needs to be tight but not too tight as you found out. the pin should be tight otherwise you have the wrong collet on or wrongly setup.

I got an offer from a clock repair place that they would put together a quantity of pins and washers for $10 but I had already ordered them from timesavers for twice that.
