Post subject: Thirty year old grandfather clock
My boss purchased a grandfather clock from the King Arthur Clock Company in Fairhope, AL many years ago. The company has long since went out of business. The instructions, key to wind the clock and the key to open the door have gone missing. He would like to know where would be the best place to get replacements of each of those items? The clock is in another city in his parents' house so he has no serial number or identification number available at this time. Thank you for your time.

You would need to identify the movement to find instructions. The movement may contain manufacturer information on the rear plate. You would require the movement model number and manufacturer name. In the event that instructions could not be found, I am certain you could use any similar type of mechanical movement instructions as a general guide for adjustments and regulation.
The door key is more than likely a skeleton key, and most are pretty standardized. You may find that any old skeleton key will work. I have one that came with an old desk of mine, which I keep on my car key ring. To date, it has never failed to give me entry into any clock case I have encountered.
