Hi, I bought this wonderful clock on eBay, seller said it works, but it doesn't. Sad Gonna keep it anyway. Movement mechanism has a problem with it, there is a yellow gear inside of it, which connects a statter, if that's what it's called, it's a part with the magnet that magnetic field from coil moves. Well this yellow gear between statter and seconds gear has more than a few teeth missing.

Basically, I took movement apart, and tried replacing that gear with other gears from other movements I have. No go, those gears I have aren't big enough.

Then I tried replacing the movement with the movements I had, made in china, each one has a shorter thing that goes through the clock, so I couldn't use those either.

Original movement is TOCHIGI TOKEI, inside battery compartment there is a number 28008E, and also TRML or TRMD. All I need is this one gear, or a replacement movement, what ever is cheaper. Movement does work, with the exception of that one gear. Thingy that sticks out of the clock is almost 1 inches long, about 0.9. Onto which you put the minutes hand, has a thread, and it's sort of U shaped, it's metal.

Here is a picture. http://i276.photobucket.com/albums/kk5/exitboy2012/IMG_1309.jpg
The yellow gear is on top of the anchor body.

It looks as though you should simply replace the movement - as no one (I am aware of) sells the gears alone for quartz movements. When determining shaft length, remember that the key measurement is maximum dial thickness. Measure the thickness of the board your movement center shaft will go through (to include the thickness of any front mounted clock face or time ring). We carry movements that can go through up to 3/4" thick material (see #10165). As a side note - this particular movement (#10165) has a total hand shaft length of 1-3/16". Remember, however, that the maximum dial thickness is a bit more critical than overall hand shaft length when searching for a replacement.

Thanks for the info Chris. Though I'm a newbie with clocks, even though I can take apart and put together a movement, I never bought a replacement movement and I have a few more questions, I will need a few more pointers if you can.

Upon closer examination, I discovered that exact maximum dial thickness is 5/8" and total hand shaft length is 0.969", but 1 1/16" will do just fine, since I have no glass on the clock. So, I have chosen these movements:

Seiko Ultra-Thin Quartz 10134 - http://www.klockit.com/products/dept-157__sku-AAAXX.html
Quartex Set & Forget Quartz 14510 - http://www.klockit.com/products/dept-157__sku-BBBBQ.html
Made in USA Quartz 10165 - http://www.klockit.com/products/dept-157__sku-FFFFV.html
Atomic Clock 10144 - http://www.klockit.com/products/dept-159__sku-AAAAH.html

Chris, I'm trying to reuse the hands which came from these clocks. Both hour and minute hand are snap on, and I tried them on generic chinese movements, they seem to be standard size, so I'm not worried about those.

The minute hand is what I'm concerned with. It's sort of U shaped, if you can picture two U's closed together, and it requires a nut to keep it in place. Please see picture. I wonder if the movements I've chosen will work with this hand?

Another question is, do all these movements come with all 3 hands or hands must be purchased separately, if I want to replace hands as well?

I like the Seiko movements. The same style hands are available from klockit, so no need to use the old ones.

I agree - forget the old (existing) hands. Hour and minute hands are free with a purchase of a Quartz movement - so you have nothing to loose by selecting another (similar) style hand type from Klockit. You get to choose the style of hand you prefer (from the large selection offered). As a side note: Our minute hands have a similar mounting, which is referred to as an "I" shaft mount.

Second sweeps are available for about $ .40 extra (just make certain the grouping matches that which is recommended for the movement you select). Some movements will recommend group A second hand sweeps, while others will recommend group B. The difference between the two is the inside diameter of the pin shaft (used to mount the second hand).

Hope this helps...
