Post subject: tochigi tokei hour hand problem
i have an old (probably 20-25 years old) tochigi tokei quartz movement with chime rods and mechanical strike hammers. it will keep accurate time, but the hour hand now spins around freely. it is firmly attached to the shaft but the whole shaft rotates freely. if i carefully pull out on the shaft with hand attached, it will lock into place, but any slight jar will cause the shaft to spin freely again. it seems like there should be some kind of spring mechanism that may be broken to hold the shaft out and prevent it from spinning. people have suggested that i replace it with the bim bam movement, but that movement--although very similiar is oriented wrong and will not fit in my case. any help?

You can check to see if someone could possibly repair the movement - however, you should know that quartz clock movements are typically replaced rather than repaired.
