I have a matle clock with a tochigi tokei quartz movement. The movement is equiped with chimes. This movement takes a D battery. My problem; I can't seem to get the chimes and hands synchronized. Where am I going wrong here? Thanks, Don Thomas

In many cases (depending on the quartz movement) you can remove the hands and re-mount them so that they are designated at the correct time. Get the movement to chime and count the number of strikes (ex: 10 strikes = 10 o'clock). If your movement has an automatic night silence, it may not chime at all if in the PM designation (so you may have to advance the hands several hours until you can hear and count the chimes).

Knowing the number of chime strikes, you can remove the hour and minute hands. Typically, the nut on the end of the hand shaft can be removed. Next, you can carefully pull the hour and minute hands from the center shaft. Re-mount the hour hand so that it corresponds to the number of strikes heard. Re-mount the minute hand and secure the hands with the cap nut.

Now you may simply advance the movement to the correct time (although it is a good rule of thumb to stop rotating the hand every time the movement chimes - allow the movement to fully chime/strike, and then proceed to rotate the hands again - just as a precaution for the movement). Hope this helps out...
