We have a grandfather clock and it has been working perfect for years. Recently we tried to change it so it would not chime every 15 minutes and also tried to change the tune. Well after that no chime, no tune and the middle weight is the only one that drops. It appears that the switch that moves the "song" choice is no longer attached to the mechanism in the back. The other issue we have is with the right weight, the cable is up to high now and we cannot get the pulley back on to replace that weight. I would like to see if we can get some help to get this thing up and running.

The name on the top is Trend and I am not sure where to locate a model or any other number that might help to better identify it.

Thanks for any and all help!!

First of all Trend, along with many similar firms, is a furniture company manufacturing clock cases into which they install clock movements made by others. Normally the movement maker's model numbers are stamped into the brass on the back plate which will identify it.

It appears that you have a triple chime movement allowing the selection of one of three different melodies. There is also a silent function where no chime is heard at all. There is no provision, however, to silence the quarterly chimes individually. It is either all or nothing. Apparently the chimes "locked up" when you were moving the selector switch around. Several things could have caused that to happen.

You don't state how the weight and pulley came off. Is this a cable drive or chain drive movement? The usual way to replace a weight if it is wound too high is to make a temporary extension hook out of a piece of wire that can be attached to the end of the chain and hang the weight from it. By advancing the minute hand through several quarter hours and allowing the clock to chime the chain will lower enough to reattach the weight in a normal manner.

You may have to move the chime selector from inside the case since you say that it is no longer attached through the dial. Quite possibly the movement may have to be removed completely in order to carry out necessary service work.
