I have a ship's clock that has a U.T.S. movement. Recently the minute hand has begun to slip and I would like to replace the movement.

I have removed the hands and there is no nut holding the movement to the face. Also, I see no clips, screws, or other fasteners holding the movement against the face. Any ideas of how these are mounted. The U.T.S. site is not helping me.

Sadly I can not see any part number on the movement. It is roughly 2 3/4" x 2" in size with a single AA battery and must be ten years old.

Any advice is appreciated.

In cases where there is no hex nut securing the movement, you will probably find that the movement is secured via some other means (usually double stick tape or something to that nature). You can also check to see if the movement was secured with small screws (possibly in the battery compartment).

In regard to a movement replacement, quartz movements are pretty versatile, so you should not need a part number from the previous movement.

Well I worked with the movement, turning it until it simply came apart. The inside of the housing has a female thread. There is a nipple ( to use a term from another post) that has a male thread. A thin rubber ring serves to provice compression and hold the movement in position after it has been seated. Now all I need to do is find a satisfactory movement to replace the old one and I am on my way.

thanks
