Post subject: uneven beat
hi all
this is my first post so here goes...
i have just bought a zaanse wall clock hermle movement made appx 1970 hung it on wall..went for a bit then stopped..leveled the clock still refused to go ..so moved to clock off level to right.. this time it ran but well off beat...moved a bit more to the right the clock has even beat
i have been looking round the forum and found one or two pointers as how to have clock level and have an even beat...some say bend the pendulum or slightly bend suspension spring one way or other...can somebody please advise the best way to solve my problem...
many thanks chazbear

Do not bend the pendulum or suspension spring. You should, instead, perform a beat adjustment to the pendulum. The pendulum is attached to a pendulum leader. This pendulum leader is typically fed through the crutch arm (which extends through the rear plate of the movement). The crutch arm must swing an equal distance from center to left as it does from center to right. The crutch arm can be adjusted in either direction by pushing through slight resistance on the left/right (whichever side has less distance). By making certain the crutch arm swings equally from center to left (and from center to right) is the method by which you can put your movement in beat. Of course, make certain the clock movement is perfectly level before you begin.
