Post subject: Urgos 5 tube movement
I have a bit of a strange situation. I was called out to a house where a woman had sent her own urgos 5 tube movement off to be rebuilt. She had said that the clock was running very slow and the pendulum would only swing about 2 inches in each direction and would stop in a week or so. She was told by a clock shop in another state that it was in need of rebuilding seeing as it was 25 years old. He had it for 2 months and then shipped it back to her. This is where I get called in because she had a bit of a hard time remembering how it was mounted in the case. Once I reinstalled the movement and strung the chains and hung the weights it was still doing the exact same thing. Still hardly any swing to the pendulum and it will only run for about ten minutes. Also the chime mechanisim is out of sync to where it doesnt chime every fifteen minutes but runs through all four chime sequences at the hour mark and then strikes the appropriate hour. I left the clock at her house for now and am trying to contact the man who did the work to see what I might be missing. I would like to give this man the benefit of the doubt that he did the work so I was wondering if there is anything that I am missing. He did not have the weights sent to him, only the movement. Could this be the problem that once he "rebuilt" the clock he tested it with a different weight and had good success? Please let me know anything I could try or if you think that this woman has been had by a bad apple. Thanks
